Character Recap for Respect

May Character Theme: Respect

Week 1

THE GOAL: The goal of this week’s lesson is to teach students what attitude is and why we learn to respect others.

WHAT WE’LL TEACH:   We will teach students that the respect is one of the first things taught in Karate. Each and every class begins with a bow to show respect. Respect is simply treating people and things as if they are important. Even if someone isn’t important to you, they are important to someone.

Week 2

THE GOAL: The goal of this week’s lesson is to teach students about respecting authority.

WHAT WE’LL TEACH:   We will teach students that authority is any thing or anyone that we are supposed to obey.   We may not know why someone with authority is asking us to do something. But they do know why and we should respect their position enough to listen.

Week 3

THE GOAL: The goal of this week’s lesson is to teach students the importance of self respect.

WHAT WE’LL TEACH:   We will teach students that we can’t forget to treat ourselves with respect. There is no one on the planet that is exactly the same are you. That’s makes you very special and you should treat yourself as such.

Week 4

THE GOAL: The goal of this week’s lesson is to teach students that you need to show respect to people, no matter how comfortable or familiar you are with them.

WHAT WE’LL TEACH:   We will teach students that the law of familiarity means that sometimes the people we are the most familiar with, get less respect because they are around so much. A friends parent may be treated very respectfully but a student may not treat their own parent the same way. We can’t allow ourselves to stop showing respect to those closest to us.
