December Character Theme: Honesty
Week 1
THE GOAL: The goal of this week’s lesson is to teach our students the importance of hard work.
WHAT WE’LL TEACH: We will teach students that in life, nothing is given away for free. If you want something, you’re going to have to work for it. In Karate, instructors don’t just give away rank and the same is true in life.
Week 2
THE GOAL: The goal of this week’s lesson is to remind our students how to be honest with themselves.
WHAT WE’LL TEACH: We will teach students that the person you talk to the most is yourself. If you can’t be honest with yourself, you won’t be able to be honest with others. Being honest with yourself means that you can grow.
Week 3
THE GOAL: The goal of this week’s lesson is to teach our students what responsibility is and how to become a responsible person.
WHAT WE’LL TEACH: We will teach students that “responsibility” breaks down into two words, response and ability. We have the ability to respond. When something happens to us, we have a choice to make, are we going to let it make us better or bitter.
Week 4
THE GOAL: The goal of this week’s lesson is to teach our students how to develop the skills or hard work, honesty and responsibility.
WHAT WE’LL TEACH: We will teach students that although it appears easier sometimes to not apply these life skills, in the long run it doesn’t work out well. We’ll have students imagine their life in they were dishonest, lazy and irresponsible.
