Black Belt Principles

October Character Theme: Black Belt Principles

Week 1

THE GOAL: The goal of this week’s lesson is to teach our students that they have been given the ability to choose the type of person they are.

WHAT WE’LL TEACH:   We will teach students that they have “free will” to choose how they behave. Students will hear a story about the Scorpion and the Frog. In the story, the Scorpion cannot help but sting the Frog because it’s in his nature. As humans, we can decide our actions.

Week 2

THE GOAL: The goal of this week’s lesson is to teach our students about what Modesty is.

WHAT WE’LL TEACH:   We will teach students that Modesty is not showing off, bragging, or thinking you know it all. If you think you know everything, there is no room to learn from others. You should always be willing to accept that there are things you don’t know.

Week 3

THE GOAL: The goal of this week’s lesson is to teach our students what Courtesy is.

WHAT WE’LL TEACH:   We will teach students that Courtesy is treating people with kindness and consideration. It’s treating people the way you want to be treated.

Week 4

THE GOAL: The goal of this week’s lesson is to teach our students about what Honesty means.

WHAT WE’LL TEACH:   We will teach students that Integrity is simply being honest. It’s important to be honest with yourself and with others. We will also recap that living with Black Belt principles is important outside of the dojo as well as inside.
